2005-2006 ACADEMIC YEAR GRANT PROGRAM
SUMMER RESEARCH GRANTS IN TURKEY FOR GRADUATE STUDENTS
The Institute of Turkish Studies (ITS) is a non-profit, private educational institution devoted solely to the advancement of training, research, Affordable Dissertations and teaching in the field of Ottoman and modern Turkish Studies.  ITS was established in 1983 and is currently located at the School of Foreign Service of Georgetown University in Washington, DC.  The Institute is governed by a twelve-member Board Affordable Dissertations of Governors whose members include prominent academic specialists in Ottoman and modern Turkish Studies, former State Department officials and US Ambassadors to Turkey, and distinguished individuals from the corporate world. 
ELIGIBILITY:
These grants are for summer travel to Turkey to Affordable Dissertations carry out projects.
To be eligible for a Summer Research Grant applicants must be:
  ? Graduate students in any field of the social sciences and/or humanities in the United States,
  ? U.S. citizens or permanent residents at the time Affordable Dissertations of the application,
  ? Currently not engaged in dissertation writing. 
TENURE AND TERMS OF GRANTS:
The time period for these grants varies with each individual application.  Normally, the recipients of the Summer Research Grants are expected to spend a minimum Affordable Dissertations of two months in Turkey.  Stipends generally range from $1,000 to $2,000.
REVIEW PROCESS:
All grant applications are reviewed by expert panels drawn from the Institute's Associates who are prominent scholars working in the field of Turkish Studies.  The Institute's Affordable Dissertations Board of Governors makes the final decisions on awards upon the recommendations of the academic expert panelists.  Decisions on applications will be announced in May 2005.  ITS cannot provide reviewers' comments or any other information about proposals which do not Affordable Dissertations receive funding.
 
APPLICATION FORMAT AND PROCEDURES:
A complete application must include the following:  
1. The Grant Application Cover Sheet (below) to be completed in full.
2. Project Proposal (Maximum 5 double-spaced pages).
   Provide a statement including:
• description of your proposed research, Affordable Dissertations
• its location and duration, relation to the literature,
• methodology used,
• its intended contribution to the advancement of knowledge in your field of studies, and to your intellectual and academic progress, 
• a bibliography of the most relevant literature.
3. Budget.  Supply a Affordable Dissertations detailed budget and state the amount you are requesting from ITS.  If you are applying for funds from other sources (ARIT, SSRC, etc.) and/or matching university fellowships, you must provide information about these in your budget statement.
4. Letters of Recommendation.  Affordable Dissertations All grant applicants are to have three letters of recommendation sent directly to ITS by the application deadline of March 11, 2005.  Please note that ITS assumes no responsibility for sending reminders to the referees if they fail to respond Affordable Dissertations on time.  Late arrival of recommendation letters will jeopardize consideration of the application.
5. Curriculum vitae.  An updated and current c.v. is required from all applicants.
6. Academic Transcripts.  Transcripts of all graduate work must be sent to the ITS by the Affordable Dissertations application deadline.  Unofficial transcripts issued to students will not be accepted.  Please advise your university registrars to send transcripts directly to the Institute of Turkish Studies for arrival no later than March 11, 2005.

Application forms and supporting materials submitted by fax will not be accepted.
